24 Nov A Season of Great Thanks
On Thanksgiving Day one year ago, we nervously set forth on the wildest journey of our lives: we took a leap of faith and announced to our friends, family, and the world that we intended to adopt a child. I still remember the emotions and adrenaline that surged forward in that moment… Stepping out from underneath the shadow of infertility and into the light of hope.
And I remember the whisper of my heart, as it promised once again that THIS would be my last holiday season with empty arms.
Our year-long adoption journey challenged me, stretched me, and fulfilled me in ways I never could’ve expected. I had so many unspoken fears that consumed my heart in those early days: How long would we wait? How could we ever afford the cost? How would we “share” our child with his/her birth family? Would I be able to bond with a child that did not look like me? But we linked arms with the amazing team at Faithful Adoption Consultants and dove in headfirst.
And then on October 12th, 2016, our sweet Ellie arrived. We were both born that day.
I learned so much. Like the Grinch in the classic Dr. Seuss cartoon, my heart grew many sizes over the year. There was room for SO much more. For Ellie, for her brave birth mother, for the biological siblings she’ll come to know someday. For our big, beautiful and messy adoption family.
I’m looking forward to our “new normal” in 2017. I’m excited to get back into the kitchen, doing what I love and sharing it with you all. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for going on this journey with us! The love and support we have felt over the last year has been overwhelming. It certainly took a village!
So from my family to yours: Happy Thanksgiving. My cup overflows.
Special thanks to the wildly-talented Elizabeth Clements Photography for capturing these special moments with our precious Ellie!
